Data Protection

UK Sample Details: Unlike Freedom of Information Legislation which differs between Scotland and the rest of the UK The Data Protection Act 1998 covers all parts of the UK.  and is administered by the UK Information Commissioner.  Our briefing introduces the main principles of the Acts, and provides a number of practical examples to illustrate different scenarios covered by them.

An option for more advanced practicioners is a detailed examination of the implications of the 'Durant v Financial Services Authority'* case covering the handling of 'personal data' and in particular information which in some way concerns and identifiable living indivudal but which is obviously not about them personally e.g. incidental mention in the minutes of a business meeting of an individual's attendance at that meeting in an official capacity.
